In a pivotal Super 12 matchup for the T20 World Cup in Adelaide today, India and Bangladesh faced off with Bangladesh chasing a 185-run total. Opener Liton Das took control of Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh still ended up losing the game by five runs through DLS despite the dramatic finish.
After Taskin Ahmed hit Hardik Pandya for a boundary and six in the penultimate over and Nurul Hasan Sohan lifted Arsdeep Singh for a big six in the second delivery of the final over, the target was reduced to 13 of the final four deliveries. It took a six off the penultimate ball, but Sohan blasted Arshdeep through the point region for a boundary.
But it didn’t happen, as Sohan could only score one run off the final ball as Bangladesh had to settle for 145 in a 16-over game cut short by rain.
Litton’s assault put the Tigers ahead of the game; they reached 66 for no wicket in seven overs when rain stopped play. Once play restarted with a new target of 151 in 16 overs, wickets fell at regular intervals, beginning with the unlucky departure of Liton, who was run out for a score of 60 off of just 27 balls.
The Tigers’ confidence was knocked when KL Rahul blasted a straight throw from midwicket that caught Liton short.
As the Tigers tried to recover after losing Liton, opener Najmul Hossain Shanto and captain Shakib Al Hasan each hit a few boundaries, but India held firm and the Tigers lost.
Bangladesh may yet have a chance to make it to the semifinals even after this setback. The Tigers’ hopes hinge on Pakistan beating South Africa on Thursday, but two other outcomes also need to go their way for this to happen.
However, Litton Das did end up scripting a unique record. Litton Das becomes the first player to score a T20I fifty at the same moment the team total reached fifty.

Without a doubt it's a great stat— Dunphy (@enough526) November 2, 2022
With that six off Shami at 5.2 ovs
Litton score from 45 to 51
Team total from 48 to 54So it would be the same ball.
