“We should try 2 innings of T20’s on Test match method” Waqar Younis comes up with a suggestion on the future of ODIs

Many have raised calls to reduce ODI cricket to 40 overs.

Former Pakistani cricket Waqar Younis has come up with a suggestion for the future of the ODI(One-Day Internationals). Of late, the debate regarding the future of the 50-over format has made the headlines with many giving their verdict on the same.

Waqar Younis wants 2 innings of T20s on the Test match method 

The future of the ODI has come under scrutiny after a few experts and cricketers have given their suggestion to reduce the game from 50 overs to 40 overs, to make it more entertaining.

The growing advent of T20Is T20 leagues and T20I cricket across the world over the last few years has put a question mark on the future of ODI cricket. Many have even raised their voices against the 50-over format as they feel that it’s time-consuming.

Many are of the opinion that there’s a need to alter the 50-over format as the T20I format is entertaining as well as less time-consuming. Recently Australian cricketers talked about the future of the ODIs. They also suggested that the game should be reduced to 40 overs.

Former Pakistani cricketer, Waqar Younis also gave his take on the debate. He suggested that instead of reducing the game there should be innings of T20s on the Test match method

“Instead of reducing the overs in ODI’s to fast track the game we should try 2 innings of T20’s on Test match method with 10 minutes break btw the innings.” he said.

Usman Khawaja calls 50-over cricket boring; wants the game to be reduced to 40 overs 

Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja was very vocal about calling ODI cricket boring. He suggested that the game should be reduced to 40 overs as 50 overs seems too long. He said:

“50 overs is just that little bit too long now. Take out that little middle bit, you’d get to 25 overs and you’d look up and ‘oh crap, there’s only 15 overs left, let’s go againSo you don’t have that little lull. That’s my only objection to one-day cricket.” He said.
