Upul Tharanga signed up to play for Australian club

Upul Tharanga has become the latest name to join Australian club named the Mulgrave Cricket Club. The left-handed batsman was once one of the best openers in Sri Lankan cricket. He used to open the innings with TM Dilshan.

Now, he will reunite with TM Dilshan at this cricket club. Many fans would know that Dilshan has also moved to Australia, where he is playing for the Mulgrave cricket club. Confirming, Upul Tharanga’s arrival in the time, Mulgrave cricket club President said:

“At present we have signed him for one season as a player. He is expected to be in Australia in July.”

Upul Tharanga played 31 Test matches, 235 ODI matches and 26 T20I matches for the Sri Lankan cricket team. He was one of their best openers, especially in the 50-overs format. The left-handed batsman knew the art of pacing the innings well.

In his ODI career of 235 ODI matches, Tharanga scored 6,951 runs, smashing 15 centuries and 37 half-centuries. In Test cricket, he registered three centuries and eight fifties. Meanwhile, in the shortest format of the game, Tharanga managed to score 407 runs, but he could not touch the 50-run mark even once.

Upul Tharanga recently turned up for Sri Lanka Legends in the Road Safety World Series

The 2021 edition of the Road Safety World Series entertained the fans across the world. Sri Lanka Legends were a part of the competition, and the islanders finished runners-up. Upul Tharanga was a part of the Sri Lanka Legends squad in the competition.

Tharanga scored 39 runs in the match against South Africa Legends, while in the final against India Legends, he managed only 13 runs. After the Road Safety World Series, Tharanga, who has retired from international cricket, turned up for Nondescripts in three List-A matches. It will be exciting to see how the Sri Lankan opener performs in the Australian conditions for the club.
