If the opening defeat to PBKS wasn’t enough, KKR suffered another telling blow in the form of the loss of one of their major all-rounders, Shakib Al Hasan. KKR is already plagued by some serious availability issues that has seen their captain ruled out at least for the first half of IPL as Shreyas Iyer is under rehab. Now with Shakib gone, they will be left with six overseas players and will have to find another replacement at the earliest possible.
As far as reports go, Shakib Al Hasan told the management that he will be unavailable during the tournament due to his international assignments for Bangladesh and also personal reasons which he needs to tends to. As KKR’s woes increase, here are two replacements that the Knights can go for the remainder of the matches.
#1 Dasun Shanaka
The Sri Lankan all-rounder is still present for selection and he can be a real good addition, particularly due to his ability to proliferate in the overseas conditions. He is also a decent bowler in the middle overs and keep things real tight. However, his key strength lies in his knack for claiming wickets. With exemplary performances in the Asia Cup 2022 and a string of impressive showdowns against India that too in the latter’s backyard, he perfectly fits the bill that Shakib was summoned for.
#2 Jamie Overton
Towering at 6’5, Jamie Overton can be a crucial add to the ranks of KKR. Known for his valuable addition with the bat at around number 6 or 7, Overton can be a real gamechanger with the ball in his hands. A seasoned name in the English county circuit, plying his trade for Surrey, he is someone whom KKR can also use up front alongside Umesh Yadav to get the all-important seam with the new ball.
