During India’s recently finished limited-overs series against South Africa, which consisted of five T20 matches, many notable players were left out of the limited-overs team in preparation for India’s one-off test match against England the following month. Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has given some thought to the prospect of playing an improved English test team that would be led by Ben Stokes.
Due to a pandemic of COVID-19 among the Indian team, the third and final test match of their tour of England from the previous year had to be postponed. On July 1st, the Indian team is scheduled to compete in the fifth and final Test match of the series that was to be played the previous year. The Indian team opener KL Rahul will not be available for the Indian team, but the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be a boost for the team’s overall performance.
The players who were a part of the Indian team the previous year would like to perform well and finish the job because the series will be on the line in that match, and they wouldn’t want to undo all of the good work that they did the previous year. Although Rahul Dravid stated that it may be a one-off Test match for the new coaching staff.
“Regarding the test match, it is safe to say that it is going to be an interesting experience. This will be a one-off test match for us, but it will count toward WTC points. The players that were involved in it [the previous year] now have a series on the line, and they are really motivated to try to win that series and perform well in it,” Rahul Dravid said.
I like watching Test cricket just as much as I enjoy playing it and coaching it. Rahul Dravid
The current England team is led by Ben Stokes, and they are playing brave cricket under Brendon McCullum’s direction. The head coach of the Indian team is looking forward to competing against this England team. The former Indian cricketer feels that it would be a more difficult test for his squad this time around because the English team is playing terrific cricket and is not displaying any symptoms of restrictions.
“When we were there last year, England was perhaps a little bit on the back foot, so it’s going to be a little bit different this time around. However, they have put together a few solid performances [against New Zealand], and our team is shaping out to be a fairly solid one as well. The two of them should get along well. Fingers crossed. I like watching Test cricket, playing the game, and coaching it just as much as I do watch it,” Rahul Dravid said.
