“There is no better big game player than Virat Kohli”, Twitter reacts as Virat Kohli says he takes a lot of pride in performing on big stages

Virat Kohli may have been “lost for words” after an epic game, but he was certain that his unbroken 82 runs off 53 balls against Pakistan at the MCG was the finest Twenty20 innings of his career, “because of the enormity of the game and what the circumstances were.”

With his team behind by four wickets and needing 160 runs to win, Kohli engineered a valiant comeback with Hardik Pandya, and the two of them put up 113 runs for the fifth wicket to win the game. Kohli was in the thick of things right up to the tense last over, which included two wickets, a no-ball for height, a wide, and a six-hit by Kohli, of course! – and discussions between the Pakistan players and the umpires until R Ashwin struck the winning run off of the last ball.

Kohli said that there was a period in time when the assignment seemed “impossible.” When India reached the midway point in their chase, they needed 115 runs off 60 balls. He was 12 of 21. Kohli subsequently stated that he was “under a lot of pressure” throughout the match. According to Kohli, the atmosphere began to shift as soon as Hardik stepped up to bat.

It seemed like Pakistan had the upper hand as India required 54 runs from the last four overs of the game. The only problem was that left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz still had one over to bowl, and he had been the most vulnerable part of the bowling attack. But even before Nawaz came on, Kohli drew India back into the contest by hitting consecutive sixes off the final two balls of the 19th over, which were delivered by Pakistan’s best bowler, Haris Rauf. This allowed India to get back into the game.

In a recent interview, Kohli stated: “I take a lot of pride in performing on big stages and I look forward to these moments.”
