On May 1, 2023, players and support personnel from the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore got into a brawl on the pitch during their IPL 2023 match at the Ekana Stadium. RCB’s lone representative, Virat Kohli, battled with the likes of Naveen-ul-Haq, Amit Mishra, Kyle Mayers, and Gautam Gambhir of LSG. Videos filmed by spectators in the stands and news accounts provide a picture of what happened between Kohli and the LSG players.
First, the LSG chase, which was highlighted by forceful send-offs and celebrations from Kohli. Then, in the 17th over, Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq got into an altercation. Amit Mishra attempted to step in, but Kohli also slugged him. After RCB’s 18-run victory, the teams queued up to shake hands, but Naveek-ul-Haq shook Kohli’s hand off in the middle of another violent confrontation between the two. Glenn Maxwell made the split.
Mayers was observed having a short conversation with Kohli as he was leaving. The LSG opener reportedly wanted to know why the RCB veteran was subjected to such hostility. Gambhir then stepped in and removed Mayers from the equation.

The report claimed that Kohli said, “Bloody f***. I want to give him a sendoff.” Gambhir heard this, lost his cool and charged towards Kohli.
The BCCI issued fines to Gambhir, Kohli, and Naven just a few hours after the event. Gambhir and Kohli both had 100% of their match money taken away, while Naveen was fined 50%. The verbal spat between Kohli and Naveen did not stay confined to the cricket pitch, with both players posting content to their Instagram accounts.
