During the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fast bowler Mohammed Siraj got into a confrontation with Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Phil Salt as the DC was chasing. In the fifth over, after Salt had hit Siraj for two sixes and a four off successive balls, the pacer reacted with a short delivery that went over the batter’s head and was declared a wide.
Captains David Warner and Faf Du Plessis eventually had to separate their players after a heated exchange between Siraj and Salt. It seems like Siraj and Warner exchanged a few words as well.
Shikha Pandey, a fast bowler for the Indian women’s squad, tweeted something that many people took to be a personal assault on Siraj. “Swearing won’t help anyone win any games! #JustSaying,” she had said in the tweet.
Because of the barrage of reactions condemning her for attacking Siraj, Pandey eventually disabled replies to her tweet. Later, in a message spread over two tweets, she blasted the trolls and made it clear that her first remark had nothing to do with Siraj.
Star Indian fast bowler, Shikha Pandey, shuts critiques after being dragged for criticizing Mohammed Siraj
“I’ve always been in awe of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. What he has achieved in his career thus far is incredible, inspiring & incomparable. So folks trying really hard to make it appear as if I implied something else please take your conversations elsewhere,” said Pandey in her first tweet.
“Also, if you think hurling abuse on my TL or someone else’s helps you get your point across pls continue to do so. I can speak for myself, it does NOT. P.S. I’m heading to the kitchen to wash the dishes, with papa lending me a hand in preparing dinner,” she said in the second.
Earlier, Siraj was at the centre of an incident that led to a showdown between LSG coach Gautam Gambhir and RCB captain Virat Kohli. Naveen-ul-Haq of LSG retaliated when Siraj threw the ball at him from the non-striker’s end. As the match progressed, Kohli stepped in to protect Siraj, and the two players ended up arguing. Other LSG players, including Amit Mishra and Kyle Mayers, got into it with Kohli, setting the stage for the epic showdown between him and Gambhir.
