The cricket fraternity has witnessed fielders taking brilliant catches during the passage of play. Be it international or domestic cricket, cricketers give absolutely everything on the field to help their respective teams.
On the other side of the coin, taking catches near the boundary rope is indeed a big deal and not many players can do that, especially when the ball is going just beyond the boundary rope.
This is where the athletics come into the big picture as the fielders need to imply two important things while taking a catch when the ball come towards the boundary rope.
First thing is that the fielders need to imply their acrobatic approach to take the catch. Besides that, it is also vital to have a very good presence of mind as they need to make sure that they don’t touch the boundary rope.

During the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League, Michael Neser made the headlines after he pulled off a superb juggling catch over the boundary rope and the video clip of the same has gone viral on the internet.
While some have applauded Michael Neser for his brilliant fielding effort while taking the catch, others termed it “controversial”. The incident happened during the Brisbane Heat’s game against the Sydney Sixers in Australia.
For the record, the original decision was adjudged a six but the third umpire declared that it was out in the first place. Since then, it triggered social media users to come up with their own views on the internet.
Michael Neser’s catch was indeed out of the top drawer, and nobody else would have predicted this rate type of occurrence in the sport but at the same time, his catch caused enough confusion among the fans in the cricket fraternity.

Does that technically mean you don't even need to be in the field of play when taking a catch??? You could stand 5-10 metres back and catch it with your feet in the air and throw it back up and run back. Even though it's the rule, it's absolutely rubbish.

Not at all. Law 33.2 states that the ball must ground over the boundary to be 6. The ball did not ground.
