T20 World Cup happens in how many years once?

T20 World Cup 2022 will take place in Australia from 16th October to 13th November.

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup is approaching soon. The excitement bar for the tournament has reached a different level as teams have been preparing hard in the build-up to the event. The global slated to take place in Australia makes it even more exciting as the conditions in the country are extremely mouthwatering with help for both batters and bowlers.

T20 World Cup happens in how many years once?

It was all back in 2007 when the T20I format got its own championship tournament. The first edition of the T20 World Cup was played in 2007 with the idea of hosting the tournament after every two years.

The second edition of the tournament took place after two years in 2009 but it happened in 2010 because the scheduled ICC Champions Trophy that was slated to take place in 2008 in Pakistan was cancelled due to security reasons. So to correct the international cricketing calendar,  the tournament took place in two consecutive years.

The T20 World Cup then happened after every two years till 2016. It didn’t take place in 2018 because the idea was dropped by ICC after the Champions Trophy in 2017. It was then slated to take place in 2020 but covid-19 pandemic forced it to shift the event to 2021.

The event now will take place in 2022 and as per ICC’s FTP, T20 World Cup will be held every two years until 2030. Therefore we can say that T20 World Cup happens once in two years.
