Regardless of what the result of SRH vs Mumbai game turns out to be, SRH will register an unwanted record to its name as this will be the first time ever that they will finish at the bottom of the IPL points table.
It is actually quite interesting the way this season has panned out for SRH because there were a fair few people who were tipping SRH to actually go all the way to the final, but as it turned out, they missed the playoffs’ qualification by a long shot. There were plenty of changes in the team midway through the season and even the captain David Warner was sacked.
SRH, so far, has played 13 games in IPL 2021 and has won only 3. So, the maximum that they can stretch their points tally to (with a win against Mumbai Indians) is 10 and all the other teams in the tournament already have more than 10 points this season.
There are only two IPL teams that have never finished at the bottom of the table
Now with SRH also finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time ever, MI and CSK are the only two teams that have never finished at the bottom. Incidentally, these are the two teams that have been the most successful in the league in terms of winning the titles as well. While MI has won 5 titles, which is the most number of titles won by any IPL team ever, CSK has won 3.
CSK had a disappointing season last year as they lost plenty of games in the initial phase of the tournament, but they recovered a little bit towards the end and made sure they didn’t finish at the bottom of the table. With 12 points, the men in yellow finished at no. 7 in IPL 2020.
