Six bowlers who bowled the most dot balls in IPL 2020

People say that T20 is a batsman’s game but at the end of the day, it is the bowlers who will help you win trophies. The teams with the two best bowling line-ups made the Final of the IPL and it was a bowler – Trent Boult who won the Man of the Match in the Final. T20 is such a format where a batsman can come under pressure if he plays a couple of dot balls. So, as a bowler, it is important to keep the batsman quiet.
If he can string in some dot balls then there is a high chance that he goes for a big hit and in that process loses his wicket. On many occasions, dot balls lead to the dismissal of a batsman so it is important for bowlers to focus on the dot balls. Let’s have a look at the six bowlers who bowled the most dot balls in IPL 2020.
6. Trent Boult – 145
Trent Boult who was the Man of the Match in the Final has bowled 145 dot balls in this IPL. He was the most successful bowler in the powerplay in this IPL as he picked up 16 wickets in the first six overs. The key to Boult’s success is his swing and many times he has foxed batsmen with that.
He bowled some beauties in the powerplay which forced batsmen to go after him and as a result, he kept picking up wickets. He started the IPL Final on the perfect note as he got rid of the dangerous Marcus Stoinis on the first ball of the match. Boult is sixth on the list with 145 dot balls in this IPL.
5. Kagiso Rabada – 150
Kagiso Rabada who won the Purple Cap is just ahead of Trent Boult with five more dot balls. Rabada’s strength is his pace and bounce which many batsmen don’t enjoy.
Delhi Capitals used him more at the death and still his dot ball count is in the top five which shows the class of Kagiso Rabada. He would be disappointed that he couldn’t deliver in the Final but he will be happy that he was the leading wicket-taker of this IPL.
4. Anrich Nortje – 154
After Kagiso Rabada, it had to be Anrich Nortje who was a surprise package in this IPL. He came into the DC team as a replacement for Chris Woakes and has performed way better than expected. Nortje was bowling at a real high pace as he bowled the fastest ball of this IPL.
The over which he bowled to Jos Buttler in the encounter against Rajasthan Royals was high-class fast bowling. Nortje is fourth on the list with 154 dot balls.
3. Jasprit Bumrah – 167
Jasprit Bumrah might not have won the Purple Cap but he made a huge impact for Mumbai Indians with the ball. Bumrah who is probably the best bowler in the world bowled 167 dot balls as the batsmen had no idea how to face him.
Whenever MI needed a wicket, Rohit Sharma gave the ball to Bumrah and he delivered. Bumrah was bowling at a different level and his success helped MI win the trophy.
2. Rashid Khan – 168
It seems as if batsmen have given up on Rashid Khan because after three years, they are still finding it difficult to read him. Rashid Khan bowled 168 dot balls and there wasn’t a single IPL game in which he conceded more than 40 runs which is insane. He bowled the most economical spell 4-0-7-3 against Delhi Capitals.
Most of the batsmen don’t go after him which allows him to keep bowling dot balls. He was the most economical bowler in this IPL as his economy rate was 5.37. Rashid Khan is currently the best T20 spinner in the world.
1. Jofra Archer – 175
Jofra Archer was just bowling rockets in this IPL. The way he was bowling it just seemed impossible to hit him. He was bowling two overs in the powerplay and most of the time his returns were in single digits with a wicket or two.
He had the best economy among the fast bowlers who played five or matches in this IPL. It was unfortunate that none of the other RR pacers supported him but Jofra Archer tops the list of dot balls with 175 dot balls in this year’s IPL.
