Many fans would know by now that the current captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the leader of the team. The Bangalore-based franchise needs a new skipper now. So, many fans and experts have been coming up with various suggestions to the team. Former South African cricket team fast bowler Dale Steyn believes RCB could possibly go after their former player KL Rahul. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar has given three names that RCB could target as a future captain.
The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is set to happen next year. So, many big names will return to the auction pool. Many members of the cricket universe expect the current RCB players Devdutt Padikkal or AB de Villiers to become the next captain. However, according to Manjrekar, AB de Villiers may not become the skipper as he might not continue playing for three years.
Sanjay Manjrekar lists two current Mumbai Indians players who can captain RCB after IPL 2021
As mentioned ahead, Sanjay Manjrekar selected three players as future RCB captain, and two of them are currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The two players are Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard. The third name that Manjrekar picked is the current Sunrisers Hyderabad batter, David Warner.
“How many years are you going to get out of AB (de Villiers) as captain and player? So I would like to have someone that has at least three years to offer. I know Pollard is no spring chicken, but he is one guy that I feel has the leadership qualities. You should always spot a person from a team that has established leaders. So I pick Pollard as a contender,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.
Will Mumbai Indians release Kieron Pollard?
While Kieron Pollard can definitely be a fantastic captaincy choice for RCB, it is highly unlikely that the Mumbai Indians will release him because he has been a match-winner for them for years now. In the same way, Suryakumar Yadav could be retained as well.
SRH are most likely to release David Warner because he has looked out of touch, and also he has lost the captaincy of the Hyderabad team.
