Rohit Sharma Breaks Babar Azam’s T20I Record During Explosive Knock Against West Indies

The 3-match T20I series between the Indian cricket team and the West Indies cricket team started last night in Kolkata. The match happened behind closed doors at the Eden Gardens. Many fans would know that the Indian white-ball captain Rohit Sharma enjoys playing at the Eden Gardens, and he continues his fine form at the venue with a quickfire 19-ball 40 at the top.

West Indies scored 157/7 in 20 overs. India got off to a fantastic start because of Rohit Sharma’s 40 runs. The run-chase got tricky at the end, but the Indian team ultimately emerged victorious by six wickets with seven balls to spare.

When the match began, Rohit had scored 503 runs in T20I matches against West Indies. Courtesy of his 40 runs last night, Rohit has now become the most successful batter in T20Is against the West Indies team.

Fans should note that West Indies is the only team to have won the T20 World Cup trophy twice, and against that team, Sharma now has an overall aggregate of 543 runs. Babar Azam previously held this record with 540 runs, while Virat Kohli is third on the list with 501 runs.

Rohit Sharma can complete 600 T20I runs against West Indies in the next two matches

There are still two more matches in the series between India and West Indies. Both games will happen at the Eden Gardens only. Thus, Rohit Sharma will have a chance of becoming the first batter in the world to score 600 T20I runs against the Men in Maroon.

Looking at the way he played yesterday, it goes without saying that Sharma is the favorite to become the first batter to score 600 T20I runs against the West Indies team. He needs 57 runs to do so and he will bat twice against them in the coming days. It will be interesting to see if he can create that record.
