RCB Creates Unique IPL Record After Signing Wanindu Hasaranga

Royal Challengers Bangalore made a slew of announcements earlier today as the countdown starts for the second phase of IPL 2021. RCB are currently positioned third on the point’s table with five wins in seven games. As the tournament returns to the UAE, RCB has announced a change in personnel ahead of the resumption of the event. While the signing of Wanindu Hasaranga was received well by the fans, the franchise also created a record by hiring the Sri Lankan all-rounder. RCB announce three signings and a change in coach

Apart from Wanindu Hasaranga, RCB also announced the signing of Dushmantha Chameera and Tim David. Wanindu Hasaranga, Chameera and Tim will replace the trio of Adam Zampa, Daniel Sams and Finn Allen, respectively.

The franchise also stated that Simon Katich had stepped down from the role of Head Coach, citing personal reasons. Hence, Mike Hesson, who was the Director of Cricket Operations at the franchise, will fill in the role until the end of the season.

With the acquisition of Wanindu Hasaranga, RCB now has at least one of the Top 10 ICC-ranked cricketers in all three categories of players. The franchise has one of the Top 10 batsmen, Top 10 bowlers and one from the Top 10 all-rounders currently.

While Virat Kohli stands at No.5 in ICC’s T20I batsman rankings, Wanindu Hasaranga occupies the No.2 position on the bowling charts. Glenn Maxwell is currently the seventh-best T20I all-rounder in the game as per ICC. Hasaranga also happens to stand at No.12 in the all-rounder’s rankings of ICC. Hence, the franchisee owns this unique distinction after the recent announcement. No other team in the competition enjoys this record.
