Rahul Dravid and his heroics in England: It is not a mean feat to notch up a man of the series award away from home, especially with the evolution of cricket. It becomes even more difficult when you are playing against England in the latter’s backyard as the conditions are extremely dicey and hostile and the crowd makes life a lot more difficult for the cricketers.
As India managed to take a slender lead by crafting a remarkable victory against England at Lord’s, thanks to a thumping bowling display from the Indian pace quartet, fans have already been speculating about Indians walking away with the man of the series award too.
In the wake of such optimistic speculations, another important piece of revelation left the Indians overwhelmed with happiness and nostalgia. The only man who has managed to emerge as the man of the series not once but twice is the great wall, Rahul Dravid.
The two times when Rahul Dravid racked up the man of the series in England
India fought tooth and claw against England at the beginning of the 21st century, and Sourav Ganguly led a resolute team to battle the mighty English. In 2002, India came back from England with the series drawn, despite going down 1-0 down early in the series.
He managed to garner scores of 63, 148 and 217 amongst his other impressive knocks in the series to claim the player of the series award alongside Stuart Broad.
In 2011, India lost all four matches against England but Dravid still managed to walk away with the man of the series award as he pumped out scores of 103, 117 and 146 to offer a lion’s share of the minimal resistance that India could put forth against mighty England.
This is what makes Rahul Dravid so special and one of the best players of the longest format of the sport. India will be colliding with England for the third Test at Headingley from 25th August.
