Picture of chief RCB scout watching three games at a time before IPL mini auction goes viral

While the date of the mini auction of IPL 2023 has been announced, things remain unclear about women's IPL

As the IPL mini-auction is all set to take place next month and with the BCCI apex council having approved a woman’s IPL in its last AGM as well, the scouts of various IPL teams are too busy these days. At the moment, it is not sure if the existing IPL franchises will have the first right to buy the women’s IPL teams or not, but the scouts are at their work.

Recently a picture of RCB’s chief scout, Malolan Rangarajan, went viral where he is watching three games at a time, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the women’s national T20 tournament in India, and also the ongoing T20 World Cup on three different screens.

It’s not clear yet who are the players RCB are planning to release or retain ahead of the IPL mini-auction and it’s also not clear if RCB has decided to bid for the ownership rights of one of the women’s IPL teams, but their scouting is on.

RCB might make some interesting decisions ahead of IPL mini auction

RCB has been one of those IPL teams which have never won an IPL title and their scouting and team selection has always been criticized for that. But, in the last few years, they have adopted a more data-centric approach and have appointed a director of cricket Mike Hesson who makes most of the cricketing decisions.

There has been a clear and visible improvement in RCB’s performances since the data analysts have come on board, as RCB has qualified to the IPL playoffs three seasons in a row. The IPL title is still eluding RCB, but they have been more consistent for a period of time than they have been before and scouting and recruitments are the main reasons behind it.

It remains to be seen what decisions RCB makes ahead of the IPL mini auction now and who are the players they target in the mini auction from their adjusted purse.
