“People asked me do you talk to each other anymore,” Ravi Shastri recalls 2011 on-air controversy with Nasser Hussain

Ravi Shastri is currently commentating with Nasser Hussain on India Vs England test match for Sky Sports

Ravi Shastri has revealed that when he told people back home that he would be commentating on India’s tour of England for the British broadcaster Sky Sports, some of them were very surprised and a few actually asked him if he would be commentating with Nasser Hussain.

According to Shastri, when he told people that he would definitely be commentating with Nasser Hussain, people again asked him if the two of them talk to each other anymore.

The background of the controversy between Ravi Shastri and Nasser Hussain goes back to a decade back when India was touring England in 2011, just after winning the ODI World Cup.

Shastri was not happy with some of the articles written in the English media about India’s world triumph and he said it in one of the mid-game shows that India’s triumph was getting undermined and he could feel a bit of jealousy among the English pundits.

Nasser Hussain had a fiery argument with Ravi Shastri on air during India Vs England test series in 2011

Shastri’s remarks were not taken kindly by Nasser Hussain at all, as he brought this up live on air and asked Shastri about the comments. Shastri stood by his words and it was quite a conflicting stint of commentary with both former players putting forward their points strongly. After that stint, they rarely commentated together again.

But, both seem to have moved on now as Shastri has been commentating with Hussain on the ongoing test match against England and both seem to be unfazed by what happened in the past.

Yesterday, during one of the rain breaks on the second day, Nasser Hussain’s fellow commentator Mike Atherton asked Shastri if he has patched up with Hussain now, to which Shastri revealed that people were actually very surprised back home how he would commentate with Hussain, but he doesn’t hold any grudge about what happened in 2011.
