Nathan Lyon scripts history in Indore Test, breaks Shane Warne’s Asian record

Australia’s most experienced spinner, Nathan Lyon is currently engaged in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy series against the Indian national cricket team.

The right-arm off-spinner is currently the leading wicket-taker for Australia in the BGT series as he has taken 11 wickets in 3 Tests so far. Overall, he is the third leading wicket-taker behind Ravindra Jadeja (20) and Ravichandran Ashwin (14) in the ongoing BGT series.

Nathan Lyon bowled pretty well in the first innings of the ongoing Indore Test match against Team India. He has accounted for three dismissals wherein he got rid of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and Srikar Bharat.

Nathan Lyon breaks Shane Warne’s Asian record

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon etched his name into the record books after he broke the iconic record set by Shane Warne in Asia. The veteran off-spinner surpassed Shane Warne for a stupendous Asian record during Day 1 of the third Test against India.

On a pitch that helped spin bowlers to a great extent, Indian batters fell prey to Australian spinners on the first day’s play as India were bowled out for 109 in the first innings.

India registered their fourth-lowest total at home in the last 15 years. In fact, all nine wickets were taken by the spinners whereas the other one ended in the form of a run-out.

Matthew Kuhnemann was the wrecker-in-chief as he took five wickets whereas Nathan Lyon settled for three wickets. After dismissing Ravindra Jadeja, Lyon edged past legendary Shane Warne to become the highest non-Asian wicket-taker in Test cricket.

For the record, Jadeja’s wicket was Nathan Lyon’s 128th wicket in Asian conditions. As of now, the likes of Lyon and Warne are the only non-Asian bowlers to have accounted for more than 100 dismissals in Asia.

Shane Warne took 127 wickets on Asian soil whereas Daniel Vettori took 98 wickets to his name. On the other hand, Dale Steyn and James Anderson took 92 and 82 wickets respectively.
