“My Parents Started Crying”- ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis Recalls Getting 3 Crore Contract From MI At IPL Auction

South African cricket’s rising star Dewald Brevis recalled how his parents became emotional while in excitement to see their son in the IPL Auction 2022. The youngster became popular as Baby AB after his performances in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 where he played for the South African U-19 cricket team.

Many fans believed that the Royal Challengers Bangalore would go hard at the auction to sign Dewald Brevis, but it was the Mumbai Indians team that emerged victorious in the bidding war to sign the youngster. The Mumbai-based IPL franchise secured his services at a price of INR 3 crore.

In an interview with the Mumbai Indians franchise, Brevis recalled how he and his family would watch the IPL and he would replicate IPL games in his backyard, and now he is all set to play in the league for the tournament’s most successful team.

“My parents were also really excited. They started crying in all that excitement because, as a family, have followed the IPL and MI all through. My first memory of playing cricket was in our backyard and from replicating ‘IPL games’,” said Brevis.

Quinton de Kock asked Dewald Brevis to watch the IPL 2022 Auction on TV

Dewald Brevis was in the middle of a match in the domestic T20 league during the IPL 2022 Auction. Senior player Quinton de Kock asked him to watch the IPL 2022 Auction live, where the youngster found out he would be playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma for the Mumbai Indians team this year.

Interestingly, de Kock was a part of the Mumbai Indians team from 2019 to 2021. He won two championships with the franchise, but now he is all set to play for the Lucknow Super Giants team in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. KL Rahul and de Kock are likely to open for LSG.
