In the game of cricket, people often tend not to give head coaches their much deserved credit. Afterall, it is they who train the players and strategize the game plans of their team. A good coach makes sure that his players play well, they make wonderful squad selections and also come up with the team tactics. In recent times, Matthew Mott has undoubtedly been one of the most successful head coaches in the game of cricket.
So who is this Matthew Mott? Well, Matthew Mott is a former Australian First class cricketer who works as a cricket coach nowadays. He was the former coach of the Australian Women’s team that won the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup not many days ago. Soon after that, he joined the England national men’s team as their head coach and within months of him joining, the team has now lifted the T20 World Cup 2022. This is a very rare feat indeed. This is perhaps the first time that a head coach has won two World cups for two different teams in the same year. He deserves a lot of credit for that.
England have been very clinical in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They failed to perfect well in the Super 12 and were lucky enough to qualify for the Final. However, once they reached the semis, there was simply no stopping them. They crushed India with a big win in the semis and then went on to register a pretty comfortable win over Pakistan in the final.
With this, England are currently both the T20 and ODI champions in Men’s cricket.
There is a high chance that they might even end up winning the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. If they continue playing in the same way they are right now, they will surely head on to the tournament as one of the favourites.
