Virat Kohli recalls his iconic 82-run knock against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022
The game between India and Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2022 will stay fresh in the minds of almost everyone for a long long time. The nail-biter clash between the two teams saw both teams giving their best till the very end.
But it was ‘vintage’ Kohli who asserted his authority and once again proved why is he rated as the best in the world. It was an exhibition of high-class batting by him as he sealed the match from the jaws of defeat to help his side begin their campaign on high.
Chasing the target of 160 runs, India was left tottering at 31/4 and it’s fair to say that they couldn’t win at that stage. However, with Virat Kohli still at the crease, Indian hopes were still there and he didn’t disappoint.
Kohli held the one end and along with Hardik Pandya, he slowly kept ticking the scorecard. With the pressure of run rate on, he looked unfazed and took calculated risks. But when things got heated up, he took bowlers to the cleaners and put Pakistan under pressure.
With the job still left undone, Kohli smashed Shaheen Afridi for 17 runs in the 18th over and followed it with a 15-run over off Haris Rauf in the 19th over. Rauf had bowled a pretty threatening spell but the batter smashed two staggering sixes off the last two balls against him to put the pressure back on Pakistan.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 runs and took his side home. His knock was lacked by 6 fours and 4 sixes as he played with a strike rate of 154.27 to etch one of the finest innings.
Weeks after the match, Kohli recalled his innings against Pakistan. The batter took to his official Twitter account and said: “October 23rd 2022 will always be special in my heart. Never felt energy like that in a cricket game before. What a blessed evening that was.”
