Jofra Archer to miss second T20 World Cup in a row as his injury woes continue

Jofra Archer didn't feature in the squad that ECB released for T20 World Cup 2022 earlier today

The talismanic England fast bowler Jofra Archer, who had played a key role for England to help them win their first ever ODI World Cup in 2019, is now all set to miss his second T20 World Cup in a row, as his elbow and back injuries have still not completely healed.

Jofra Archer had not taken part in IPL 2021 because of an apparent elbow injury as England Cricket Board (ECB) wanted to protect him for the T20 World Cup 2021 which had to take place in UAE last year. But Jofra couldn’t recover in time for the tournament and England eventually played the World Cup without him.

The timeline that was set for Jofra Archer’s comeback after the World Cup setback was the English summer of 2022, but just before the test season of England was about to start earlier this year, the news came through that Jofra had suffered another injury and this time it was a back injury which ruled him out of the entire test season.

It was, however, not announced at that time by ECB that Jofra wouldn’t be able to take part in the T20 World Cup 2022 that would take place in Australia towards the end of the year. But, in the T20 World Cup squad that ECB released today, Jofra Archer didn’t feature in that.

Jofra Archer has had a strange international career so far

It has been a strange international career for Jofra so far, where he has done some magical things for England and has got his name etched in the history books already, but it has also been a very brief international career so far because of injuries.

Jofra’s continuous struggle with injuries has now created a very tricky scenario for Mumbai Indians as well. MI had bought Jofra in the IPL mega auction anticipating that he would be fit for IPL 2023, but it might not be the case as Jofra’s recovery hasn’t gone as smoothly as it should have.
