Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul was not satisfied with the way his batters performed in the match against the Punjab Kings. Last night in IPL 2022, LSG battled PBKS for the first time ever at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal won the toss and asked his close friend Rahul’s team to bat first.
Lucknow Super Giants got off to a disappointing start as their captain KL Rahul was back in the dressing room before the third over ended. Kagiso Rabada dismissed him after he scored just six runs. Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda saved the day for LSG with a partnership of 85-run partnership for the second wicket.
LSG inched closer to the 100-run mark but suffered a collapse once the Punjab Kings broke the partnership between Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda. Sandeep Sharma dismissed de Kock caught behind, while the well-set Hooda got run out. The likes of Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni departed to the dressing room without touching the double-digit mark.
Eventually, a 10-ball 17 from Dushmantha Chameera and a six-ball 13 from uncapped bowler Mohsin Khan helped the Lucknow Super Giants finish with 153 runs on the board. While it seemed like a decent total, Rahul was not happy with his batters.
I was fuming after the first innings: KL Rahul
A superb effort from the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers helped them restrict Punjab Kings to 133/8 in 20 overs and win by 20 runs. Speaking at the post-match presentation, captain Rahul said:
“I was disappointed to be honest (with the total). I was fuming after the first innings because it was stupid cricket with the bat. The experienced guys in the team…it does happen but we did talk in the timeout that it’s a tricky pitch. 160 we felt would have been a respectable total.”
