“It Is Very Difficult To Make A Playing XI”- Daniel Vettori Slams Gujarat Titans Team Selection

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori has expressed his unhappiness over the team selected by the Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The Titans, who are making their debut in IPL this year, were exceptional with their pre-auction picks. However, their auction buys were not on the same level.

The Gujarat Titans grabbed the headlines by signing the trio of Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction. They named Hardik as their captain. At the mega auction, they started well by signing Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson.

However, later in the auction, they spent too much money on uncapped players. Daniel Vettori believes that it is difficult to form a playing XI for the Titans. Here’s what he said during a chat on ESPNCricinfo:

“They started well and we all were praising them but now it is very difficult to make a playing XI,” Vettori was quoted as saying by Republic.

Gujarat Titans have a strong squad but lack experience

While Daniel Vettori may have commented that the Titans will find it difficult to form a playing XI, it is not 100% claim because the Titans have made investments in some very talented uncapped players.

Abhinav Manohar is one of the few Indian players who can send the ball out of the park consistently. If he and Hardik Pandya get going, the duo can wreak havoc in IPL 2022.

Yash Dayal is a talented left-arm fast bowler who can trouble the batters with his pace and swing. Also, the Titans have signed veterans of domestic cricket – Varun Aaron and Pradeep Sangwan. Even Rahul Tewatia can be a match-winner on his day, while Alzarri Joseph and Dominic Drakes add variety to the pace attack.

Vijay Shankar will receive opportunities to bat in the top-order, a role he has always wanted. So, Gujarat have good options, and they can make it big this year.
