Australia defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets to win their first game of the tournament. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga had a forgettable game, as he conceded 53 runs in 3 overs. His spell was the momentum shifter towards Australia. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted to the poor performance by Wanindu Hasaranga against Australia in the T20 World Cup.
The Aussies score a win in the T20 World Cup
Sri Lanka did well, batting first, to score 157 runs. They did not have a quick start but once the players got the hang of the pitch, they actually did pretty well. Even with the ball, the Sri Lankan squad started well. However, once they started to lose momentum, Australia took the game away with them.
The Aussies had a few scares while chasing the score. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh fell early and it seemed that the game would go down to the wire. However, some quickfire contributions by Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis helped Australia win the game. They chased the total in just 16.3 overs and this massive win will help their confidence after they lost their first game to New Zealand. For Sri Lanka, though, some introspection is needed, especially in the spin bowling department.
Twitter reacts to the disastrous show by Wanindu Hasaranga against Australia
The all-rounder bowled three overs in the game. While he gave 15 runs in the first over, he gave away 19 runs in his next two overs. All these three overs came at a time when Sri Lanka was looking to pin down Australia. Considering he is the lead spinner in the squad, it was a disappointing show by the cricketer. Hasaranga has the habit of leaking runs at times and this time around, it proved costly for his team. The player must make amends at the earliest. Here is what Twitter had to say about his performance:
let's see how Hasaranga Rashid Shadab stack up after this WT20, it ain't all about bowling in Asia.

This has to be the worst spell of bowling from Wanindu Hasaranga in his entire career.

Wanindu Hasaranga has single handedly given away this match. 52 in 3 overs no wickets.
Back to back 19 run overs.

A notable early trend in this World Cup: according to our bowling impact measure, since the start of the Super 12 stage pace bowlers are contributing +5.3 runs per match & spin -4.5. Hasaranga, Nawaz, Axar & Zampa all taking punishment in these opening games. #T20WorldCup

Bounce at Perth stadium is probably making things harder for Hasaranga.
He can neither go too full given short straight boundaries nor can he go to his staple back of the length skiddy delivery because of available bounce.
Getting belted as a reason.#AusvsSL #T20WorldCup

Shanaka did a great mistake by giving 16th over to Hasaranga after that over match was completely turned into Aussies Table. This Aus team is not lookong world champion team and Finch today played a worst knock of this wc.#SLvAUS

Absolutely disgraceful performance from Sri Lanka vs Australia. The spinners completely sold today. Hasaranga tossing slow deliveries as if he's in Colombo instead of Perth. The batsman collapsing again. Horrible performance and end of the tournament for all I know
