IPL: Four players with most runs in a single season despite getting four ducks

Over the years, IPL has seen the rise of young Indian talents. A lot of players came into prominence and got the chance to share the dressing rooms with world-class stars.

1. Shikhar Dhawan: 618 runs in IPL 2020
IPL 2020 has proved out to be the best IPL season for Shikhar Dhawan in his IPL career. Since the inception of the tournament, Shikhar Dhawan has been amongst the runs for whichever franchise he has turned for. He is, in fact, the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history, scoring 5197runs in 176 games.
In the recent IPL 2020 qualifier 2 between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shikhar Dhawan crossed the 600-run mark for the first time in his IPL career.
Dhawan didn’t get a great start in the tournament. He got out on a duck for as many as four times. Much to the delight of his fans, he made a roaring comeback and scored tons of runs, including back to back centuries. His impressive performances have helped Delhi Capitals reach their first-ever final in their IPL history.
Shikhar Dhawan has scored 618 runs in 17 matches in IPL 2020 at an average and strike rate of 44.14 and 144.73.
2. Herschelle Gibbs: 371 runs in IPL 2009
Herschelle Gibbs made his debut for Deccan Chargers in 2009 edition of IPL. He had an ordinary outing with only 167 runs to his name at a strike rate of 109.15. Come the season 2009, Gibbs played some sensational knocks with the bat.
His vital knocks helped the side register four wins in the first four games. Notably, he has also gotten out on a duck on 4 occasions in that season. His unbeaten 53-run knock off 48 balls helped Deccan Charger clinched their first-ever IPL title. Herschelle Gibbs racked up 371 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2009, averaging 33.72.
3. Manish Pandey: 143 runs in IPL 2012
Manish Pandey took everyone by surprise in IPL 2009 after becoming the first Indian batsman to notch a ton in IPL. Playing for RCB he scored 168 runs in just 5 matches at an average of 84.
He was bought by KKR ahead of the 2012 edition of IPL. Playing his first season for the franchise, Pandey didn’t fare as he would have liked. In 10 games, he scored 143 runs at an average of 20.42, including four ducks.
His best season for KKR came in 2014, where he amassed 401 runs in 16 matches at an average of 30.84. He scored a brilliant knock of 94 runs against Kings XI Punjab in the final to help KRR win their first-ever IPL title.
4. Mithun Manhas: 114 runs in IPL 2011
A right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break, Mithun Manhas played for a few franchises in IPL, including Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings. He has played 55 matches in his IPL career, scoring 514 runs at an average of 22.34.
2011 IPL season saw him getting four ducks in 10 matches. Averaging 11.40, he scored 114 runs with the highest score of 35 to his name.
