‘If You Abuse, Do So In A Language That The Player Will Understand’-Wasim Akram Reveals The Hilarious Response To Australia’s Sledging

Wasim Akram, a star in the game of cricket, recently told the story of a humorous occurrence that occurred during a sledging match between players of the Australian cricket team and a “Pakistan great.” The event took place in Australia in 1996 during a tri-series that also included West Indies. Akram, who was the leader of the squad, said how other players, such as Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, started mouthing comments at the batter. However, Wasim did not divulge the name of the player whose reaction floored Wasim.

“At one point, our outstanding batsman was taking his turn at bat in Sydney. I was up to bat with him when he reached 100. After that, I saw that Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne were making fun of him while speaking with an Australian accent. On live TV, I’m not allowed to say that. I said to my companion, “Listen, you are aware of what they are saying, aren’t you?” He turned and said, “I don’t understand a word that they’re saying.” Later on, I advised the Australians that if they were going to be abusive toward another person, they should at least attempt to do so in a language that the other person could understand,” Wasim Akram stated on the ‘To Be Honest’ show, which can be found on YouTube on the ‘Nashpati Prime’ channel.

Wasim Akram enjoyed his battles with some of the all-time greats

Akram was a player who competed at an age in which the rivalry between bowlers and batsmen was particularly fierce. In his time playing for Pakistan, Akram faced some of the best batters in the history of the game, including Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Aravinda de Silva, and Mark Waugh, to name just a few. Looking back on his career, Akram has fond memories of the challenges he faced and the victories he achieved. Even though there were times when the opposition got the better of him, the Pakistani great Akram never stopped believing that he could get them out. During his career, Akram took over 900 wickets in international cricket. He has stated that he enjoyed his battles with some of the all-time greats.

“As a fast bowler, I’ve always been pretty confident in my abilities. I have also been hammered, but I have never given up. I have been smashed by Viv Richards, Adam Gilchrist, Sachin Tendulkar on their day, Brian Lara on his day, and also Ricky Ponting, but I have never given up. I maintained a rather high standard of play throughout the match,” said Akram.
