‘India is overcomplicating matters by attempting to find a solution to a problem that does not exist’-Robin Uthappa feels that India have been trying too many playing combinations

Robin Uthappa, who plays as a wicketkeeper-batsman, thinks that Team India is trying too many different players in their lineup for the Asia Cup 2022.

After suffering defeat in both of their first Super 4 contests, the Men in Blue are on the verge of being eliminated from the competition. They are slated to face Afghanistan on Thursday (September 8), and in addition to winning that game, they will need other outcomes to fall in their favor to advance to the finals.

Injuries have also been a problem for the squad so far in the competition, which is why Rohit Sharma’s side has not yet played in the tournament with an unchanged XI. There have been several different combinations tried out, notably in the wicketkeeper and second spinner categories, but none of the players have been consistent enough to meet the requirements.

What did Robin Uthappa say?

Despite having some success to open the innings, the batting has not been able to maintain its momentum in the last five overs. In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Uthappa said that he believes an aggressive strategy won’t amount to anything if the side doesn’t have wickets in hand when it comes to the end of the game.

“India is overcomplicating matters by attempting to find a solution to a problem that does not exist. They have given this much too much consideration. You may be as aggressive as you want, but if you do not have wickets at the back end, you are always going to be under the pump no matter how much you try to win the game,” said Robin Uthappa.

Except for the victory against Hong Kong, the batting performances in the last five overs have been, at best, below average. The lower middle order has been forced to take the brunt of the damage caused by Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant’s troubles with the bat, which has resulted in the team achieving totals that are below average.
