‘He Could Have Turned The Match In India’s Favour’- Zaheer Khan Slams Rishabh Pant’s Call To Not Use Chahal’s Full Quota Of Overs

IND vs SA Live Update: Zaheer Khan recently commented that stand-in captain Rishabh Pant made a strategic error when he did not give Yuzvendra Chahal his entire quota of four overs during the first Twenty20 international match of the series against South Africa on Thursday.

In an interview that was broadcast on Cricbuzz following India’s crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa, Zaheer Khan said that Chahal might have turned the tide of the match in India’s favor. He expressed his opinion that the deft leg-spinner may have been able to offer a significant breakthrough in the latter portion of the run chase.

After a few expensive overs, the former cricket player remarked that Chahal can get back on track and perform well. This is the reason why, in his opinion, Pant should have thrown the ball to him when David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen were destroying the Indian bowlers.

IND vs SA Live Update: What did Zaheer Khan say about Yuzvendra Chahal?

Zaheer Khan said: “Rishabh Pant is going to look at not utilizing Yuzdendra Chahal’s whole quota of overs, and the team management is going to have discussions about it as well. That is something that we have seen him do. We saw Chahal having a difficult day, but we also know that he is capable of bouncing back and providing the solution.”

He added: “To win the game, the Indian side needed to bring in the next batter. You were the one who would decide what happened next. Pant may have gotten the message from Axar Patel’s last over that spinning the ball is not a viable option at this time. However, Chahal has abilities that go much beyond those.”

India was successful in putting up an impressive total of 211 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi after being allowed to bat first. However, South Africa was able to chase down the difficult target with five balls to spare owing to the courageous batting performances of David Miller (64*) and Rassie van der Dussen (75*).
