‘If you are solely interested in the new ball, you will not find a more suitable alternative than Mohammad Shami’-Irfan Pathan wants Mohammad Shami to be included in the ICC World T20 2022 squad

Irfan Pathan thinks that Team India cannot find a better choice than Mohammad Shami to operate with the new ball in the Twenty20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia in the latter part of this year.

At the Asia Cup 2022, which is now taking place in the United Arab Emirates, it has been determined that the Indian bowlers are not up to par. Because the Men in Blue were unable to defend their objectives of 182 and 174 runs against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively, in their first two matches in the Super 4 round, they are in danger of being ousted from the competition.

What did Irfan Pathan say?

Pathan expressed his support for including Shami in the World Cup preparations being made by the Indian cricket squad while participating in a conversation that was broadcast on Star Sports. He went on to explain:

“You didn’t utilize the sixth bowler on the XI you picked, and the other five bowlers didn’t provide the results you were hoping for, thus your choice was a mistake. There is a possibility that a bowler who can assist the Indian squad may enter the race for the World Cup now. I think that if you are solely interested in the new ball, you will not find a more suitable alternative than Mohammad Shami.”

Pathan pointed out an area where the Bengal pacer has one advantage over the other choices, even though he is aware that there are other possibilities as well. This is what the former India all-rounder had to say:

“There are several bowlers who have put their hands up, so there are choices available; nevertheless, the majority of them are young and lack experience. Mohammad Shami is the most advanced competitor in terms of both his experience and his form.”

Since the World Cup in 2022, India’s Twenty20 International squad has not given Shami any consideration. Even though the 32-year-old player has only participated in 17 Twenty20 Internationals so far, he was a key contributor to the Gujarat Titans’ triumphant run in the IPL 2022.
