Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann reckons that the Indian media and the Indian cricket experts treat Virat Kohli very harshly and if Virat was an England player, he wouldn’t have been treated that way.
Graeme Swann is currently in India, commentating on India’s tour of England for Sony Sports Network. When, in the post-match analysis of the third T20 international, he was asked about Virat Kohli’s indifferent form, Swann said if Virat was an England player, he wouldn’t have been worried about his form at all because he knows the class of the man.
India was chasing a target of 216 in the third T20I and the Indian top order, especially Virat, came to all guns blazing. After hitting a four and a six off two consecutive deliveries of David Willey, Virat was caught in the cover region by Jason Roy while trying to hit another four.
According to Swann, Virat Kohli’s intent was right because India was chasing a big score and the shot that he got out on, it could have easily gone for four on another day, because it had come from the middle of the bat. A foot right or left of the cover fielder and it was a four.
Virat wouldn’t have taken this much criticism in England: Graeme Swann
Graeme Swann is of the view that Virat Kohli wouldn’t have had to take as much criticism in England as he has had to take in India and the Indian fans and pundits need to go a bit easy on him because he is batting with good intent. It’s just that he is getting dismissed in some way or the other despite being in good touch.
Virat Kohli has not scored an international hundred for almost three years now and there have been a number of debates in the Indian media about his spot in the Indian team, especially on the T20I team.
