Captaincy is a massive responsibility and an added burden on the shoulders. The ones who are leading the team from the front must have faced searing pressure from every aspect of the game.
As a captain, it is absolutely vital to make changes right away on the field to get the right result. For some players, captaincy becomes so easy and it is as if it comes quite naturally to them.
On the other hand, some players don’t thrive in this area. Instances of captains stepping down from the role after failing to bring the best results are many. Coming to the point, Australian captain Pat Cummins faced pressure after losing consecutive Tests against India.
Pat Cummins has been carrying the burden of so much captaincy and that too for a long time. In the 15 Tests that he led the team from the vanguard, he could guide the team to 12 wins whereas the rest of the three games ended in defeat.
Ian Healy wants Pat Cummins to step down as captain
Pat Cummins tried his maximum best as a captain while locking horns with Team India in the first two games of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. Australia lost the first Test by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur.
After that, they went on to lose the second Test by six wickets in Delhi. Meanwhile, Team India retained the BGT for the record fourth straight time. Meanwhile, former Australian opener, Ian Healy reckons that Pat Cummins should step down as captain.
Speaking on the same lines, Ian Healy added that Cummins shouldn’t carry the captaincy burden for quite a long time. Besides that, he also went on to name two replacements for the Australian cricket team.
Australia lost only three games under Cummins and two of those three defeats came against Team India. Healy went on to pick Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell as the likely options
