‘I believe he is more skillful than I am’- BCCI President Sourav Ganguly heaps praise on Virat Kohli

Sourav Ganguly has come clean and said that Virat Kohli is a better-skilled cricketer than he was during his playing days, stating that this is an honest assessment of the situation. Ganguly also remarked that the scheduling of cricket matches has been more chaotic and stressful over the last two seasons as a result of the implementation of COVID and quarantine restrictions.

Virat Kohli has been the greatest run-getter in the Asia Cup competition, with 276 runs in five matches at an incredible average of 92. He has stormed back to form with a scorching century in the Asia Cup game against Afghanistan. After a long wait of 1020 days, he achieved his first century in international competition by scoring 122 runs. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is the latest name to join the list of former cricketers who have lauded Virat Kohli for his return to form. Kohli has received appreciation from several former cricketers.

What did Sourav Ganguly say about Virat Kohli?

“I don’t believe that the captaincy should be used as a reference since the comparison need to be made in terms of the players’ overall levels of talent. I believe he is more skillful than I am,” said Ganguly during an appearance on the ‘Ranveer Show’ on YouTube.

“We played in many generations, and we participated in a significant amount of cricket. I played games throughout my generation, and I anticipate that he will continue to play games far into his generation, perhaps playing even more games than I did. At the moment, I have played more than he has, but I have no doubt that he will catch up to me eventually. He is amazing in every way,” added Ganguly.

Over the last several months, cricket players have been kept very busy with their schedules. Kohli has also been a part of it, and as a result, he came back from a break of nearly a month after the series against England. It seems that taking some time off did him a world of good, as he rediscovered his touch and was the Indian team’s most reliable run scorer after that. Ganguly, when asked whether he had given any advice to Kohli about his form, stated that he does not get to meet players very frequently since they are going through a hectic schedule.

“I don’t have the opportunity to meet them. The poor fellas go on a lot of trips. Everyone has been subject to the scrutiny of the media. Over time, nothing except the names have been altered. Because I didn’t read nearly as much as I should have, I won’t be able to comprehend even half of it. When I checked into a hotel, the first thing I would say to the front desk clerk was, “Boss, don’t put the newspaper under my door in the morning,” said Ganguly.
