“Hopefully there is no Rahul Dravid from this generation,” Indian head coach reckons batsmen need to play more shots in modern day test cricket

India has won two test series and lost one so far under the tenure of Rahul Dravid as head coach

The current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid goes down in the history books as one of the greatest test batsmen India has ever produced, but with the dynamics of modern-day test cricket changing now, he doesn’t want the current generation of Indian batsmen to emulate his style of batting.

The Indian cricket team is currently in England for a one-off test match, which is the last remaining test match of the incomplete series of last year, and for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. As there was a rain interruption on the first day of the one-off test match, Rahul Dravid had a brief chat with the official broadcasters.

When Dravid was asked if there is going to be another Rahul Dravid from the new generation of Indian batsmen, the Indian head coach said that he is hoping there is none because in the modern-day and age, even in test match cricket, the batsmen need to play a lot of shots. The pace at which the game moves is different from what it was in the past.

Test captaincy not easy for fast bowlers: Rahul Dravid

Dravid then also went to talk about Jasprit Bumrah who is standing in as India’s Test captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma. It’s the first time ever in Indian cricket history that a specialist fast bowler is leading India in test cricket. Kapil Dev has led the Indian test team previously, but he was an allrounder and not just a fast bowler.

Talking about his conversations with Bumrah, Dravid said that he has conveyed to Bumrah that his role as a bowler is going to be as important as his role as a captain in this test match and if anything, India needs him as a bowler more than as a captain.

Dravid admitted that test captaincy is not an easy job for fast bowlers because they have to think about their own bowling as well and then have to think about the team plans.
