“His last assignment will be”, Twitter reacts as Phil Simmons resigns as Head Coach of West Indies after early exit in 2022 T20 World Cup

One of the first upsets of the 2022 T20 World Cup was when West Indies got knocked out of the tournament after the first round. The Caribbean side was the only team that has won two T20 World Cups so far. Hence, their early exit came as a bit of a shocker. As an after-effect, the Head Coach of the side – Phil Simmons, has resigned from his position. On that note, here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Phil Simmons resigns as Head Coach of West Indies after the early exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

A tough way forward for the West Indian cricket

In the past few months, West Indies has been struggling in all three formats of the game. However, there was hope from them in the T20 format. To their advantage, they had some fine players in the form of Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Odean Smith and Obed McCoy. However, all of the talents could not be utilized in the correct manner. Eventually, the team had to be eliminated from a group that consisted of lesser established cricketing nations like Zimbabwe, Ireland and Scotland.

Right now, though, the focus will be on the future. Players such as Nicholas Pooran will have to take more responsibility. The board will also want to use the services of Shimron Hetmyer, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell to take the team forward.
