“Fortune favours the brave” – Twitter reacts after Shreyas Iyer survives after the bail remained intact despite the ball hitting the stumps

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer who is part of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh was the luckiest batsman on Day 1 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

The right-handed batter got lucky not once but twice during the passage of play. At first, he tried to play a big shot off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s bowling but lacked elevation in the first place.

Meanwhile, Ebadot Hossain who was perfectly stationed at deep mid-wicket had one basic thing to do and that is to take the catch but much to everyone’s surprise, he ended up dropping a regulation catch.

Bangladesh players were literally taken aback by the fielding effort of Ebadot Hossain and thus gifting a lifeline to Shreyas Iyer in the fourth ball of the 76th over.

The star batsman got lucky once again after he survived after the bail remained steady on top despite the red cherry hitting the stumps off Ebadot Hossain in the fifth ball of the 84th over.

Bangladesh players were in utter disbelief as they initially thought that Iyer was out because the ball hit the stumps but the bail didn’t lose its balance. As per the cricket rules, the bail needs to completely fall down on the pitch in order to be given out.

However, in Iyer’s case, the ball did move after the red ball came in contact with the stump but luckily, the bail did shake and then remained on top of the stumps. Shreyas Iyer was gifted with yet another lifeline.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara added a century-plus partnership for the fifth wicket which is also the highest-ever fifth-wicket stand for India against Bangladesh in Test cricket.

At the time of writing this article, Shreyas Iyer scored 81 runs with the help of 10 fours.
