“Find a way to include Tim David in Australia’s T20 World Cup squad,” former allrounder Shane Watson urges Cricket Australia

Tim David is currently a part of the Singapore national cricket team and has played 14 T20I matches for them

The former Australian allrounder and Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Shane Watson reckons that the right-handed power hitter Tim David should be included in the Australian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup at home, where the Kangaroos will be defending their title.

Tim David’s dad is Australian because of which he is qualified to play for Australia, but he is qualified to play for Singapore too, as he is born in Singapore.

Because of finding no place in the Australian national team at the appropriate time, David has already started playing international cricket for Singapore and has featured in 14 T20I games for them.

David can still be drafted into the Australian national side, but Cricket Australia has had a policy for quite some time now that no player without a domestic central contract finds a place in the national side and Tim David currently doesn’t have a contract with either of the six domestic sides in operation in Australia.

Tim David had eliminated Delhi Capitals from IPL 2022 with a whirlwind knock for Mumbai Indians

Shane Watson was recently speaking on ESPNCricinfo where he talked about Tim David and the power that he generates while hitting the ball. Watson said he had heard about David before, but he had never seen him bat in full flow before this year’s IPL. However, the way he batted in the IPL, it was just outstanding to watch.

It was David’s rapid knock that eliminated Delhi Capitals from IPL 2022 eventually. The Capitals needed to win their last league game against the Mumbai Indians to qualify to the playoffs and they were in a strong position to do so at one stage, but David’s whirlwind knock took the game completely away from them in about half an hour.

It might have been a disappointing night for Shane Watson personally as his team got eliminated from the IPL, but he was very impressed with the way David hit the ball and he now wants to see David play for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
