“Could help India rule Test cricket”, Virender Sehwag feels Rishabh Pant and his Delhi Capitals teammate can help India win the World Test Championship

Team India is in a transition phase when it comes to the batting department in Test cricket. However, there are talented players coming through, which is a good sign for Team India. The ultimate aim for Rohit Sharma and co. will be to win the World Test Championship. In this article, we take a look at Virender Sehwag‘s opinion about a partnership that can help India win the World Test Championship.

Viru feels Pant and Shaw can help India win the World Test Championship

In recent years, Rishabh Pant has been one of the mainstays of the Indian batting line-up in Test cricket. While the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli have struggled to make runs, Pant has been consistent with his displays. Now, Virender Sehwag has opined that if India can include Prithvi Shaw along with Pant in the Indian Test Team, there are chances of the country winning major tournaments.

While speaking on Sports 18, the former India opener said, “Prithvi Shaw is a player who can bring back the excitement in Test cricket. Shaw and Rishabh Pant in one team could help India rule Test cricket, win World Test Championship”.

It will be a challenge for Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has, so far, played 5 Tests for India. He has scored 339 runs at an average of 42.38. In fact, the Mumbai cricketer scored a hundred on debut. However, he has been vulnerable to the moving ball, as seen in the Australia series in 2020-21. He was later dropped from the team.

While Shaw has the time to improve on it, the competition is immense at the moment. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have confirmed spots as openers as they are also a part of the leadership group of the team. In the queue, there is Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill, who have done well whenever they have got a chance. The likes of Priyank Panchal are also in and around the team. Hence, Shaw will need to do really well in the domestic tournaments and must grab all his opportunities to cement his spot in the Test Team.
