Byju’s co-founder Divya Gokulnath slams media for circulating fake news that company hasn’t paid 86 crore to BCCI

The payment hasn't been made to the BCCI yet because the new deal hasn't been signed by the two parties

Divya Gokulnath, the co-founder of Byju’s which is the official jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team, is furious about the fact that a fake story circulated in the media a couple of days ago where it was claimed that Byju’s had kept a huge sum of money as dues, which should have been paid by them to the BCCI.

The story had a completely different angle to it. Recently BCCI and Byju’s had an agreement where the jersey sponsorship contract between them had been extended and Byju’s had agreed to a 10% increment on the previous deal. But, there hasn’t been any amount paid by Byju to the BCCI since the last deal expired.

The reason behind that is that the new deal between the two parties hasn’t been signed yet and it’s only after the new deal is signed and all the legalities regarding the deal are fulfilled that the payment can be made.

Divya Gokulnath wrote on his LinkedIn account that she is surprised by the fact that once the fake news was out, it was taken up urgently by the media and a number of stories related to the matter started circulating when the truth of the matter was something else.

Gokulnath didn’t seem to be amused by the circulation of this fake story at all and insisted that the truth always prevails, however much the lie gets circulated.

Byju’s are expected to be India’s main jersey sponsors till ODI World Cup 2023

Even some of the BCCI sources were later quoted in the media saying that the story didn’t have complete truth to it and indeed, the new deal between the two parties hasn’t been signed, which is the reason why the payment is held and will be cleared as the new deal is signed.

According to the new deal, Byju’s will continue to be India’s chief jersey sponsor till the ODI World Cup 2023 which will take place in India itself.
