“Selectors pick people on domestic form ridiculous!” Ian Chappell baffled with India picking Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant in T20 World Cup 2022

Rishabh Pant has not played a single game in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far.

Former Australia cricketer Ian Chappell has slammed Indian management for playing Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. He criticized the selectors for picking players on the basis of domestic form.

“Rishabh Pant should be playing every game,” Ian Chappell

With the kind of form and heroics that he produced, it was expected that Dinesh Karthik would play a big role for India in the T20 World Cup 2022. But this hasn’t been the case as he has struggled quite a bit in the tournament. The keeper batter has looked clueless and has managed just 14 runs in the tournament so far.

Karthik failed in the game against Pakistan as he had a perfect opportunity to become the hero and win the game for his side. But he succumbed to pressure and perished for just a run to put India in trouble. He then looked unsettled at the crease against South Africa as he scored just 6 runs in 15 balls before registering just 7 runs against Bangladesh.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has a staggering record in Australia and following Karthik’s failure calls have been raised to include the left-hander in the team. The southpaw came on the field during the game against South Africa when Karthik suffered a back injury and many want him to be in the mix for future games.

Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell also slammed Indian management for playing Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant. Calling it a ridiculous decision, he said that southpaw should be playing every game. Speaking to Sydney Morning Herald, he said:

“Sometimes, selectors pick people on domestic form, and I think India is a classic example. They are picking Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant, ridiculous! Rishabh Pant should be playing every game. But, that’s a tendency.”

Ian Chappell also unhappy with Australia bringing Tim David in the side for T20 World Cup 2022

Ian Chappell also expressed his disappointment with Australia bringing Tim David so early into the squad. He said:

“I have been saying ‘Let’s wait on Tim David, let’s play him after the World Cup, get him some international matches.’ And let’s see if he can belt them around. And Not just belt the average 120kmh guys, can he belt the 150kmh guys? Because that’s not so easy.”

Notably, Tim David made his debut for Australia a few days ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022. He did play some good innings but hasn’t been able to get going into the tournament.
