Australia’s unpredictable weather has played a major role in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. A lot of matches were called off due to excessive rainfall and it hampered the campaigns of a number of teams like Australia and South Africa who could have qualified for the semi-finals, had their crucial matches not been washed off by rain. Some very important matches like Australia vs England had to be called off for the same reason and that affected the tournament very much.
There is a possibility of rainfall in the semi-final matches as well and thus it is important for us to know beforehand what would happen if both those matches are also called off. In the first semi-final match, New Zealand will face Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 9th November and in the second semi-final match, India will take on England at the Adelaide Oval on 10th November. As New Zealand and India finished first in their respective Super 12 group tables, they will get the preference in case of a match being called off. Thus, if both the semi-finals are called off, New Zealand will face India in the final.
Although a cloudy weather is expected during both semi-final matches, there is no forecast of rainfall and thus we probably do not need to worry about it. However, India and New Zealand have been the best-performing teams in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far and it would be only right if they end up facing each other in the final.
However, many fans are also excited about a possible India vs Pakistan final. Pakistan will look to avenge their Super 12 defeat while India will look to avenge their Champions Trophy 2017 final defeat. This is the first time that these two teams will face each other in the final of a tournament since Champions Trophy 2017 if it indeed does happen.
