In a disappointing development for the Chennai Super Kings team, the squad’s star New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of IPL 2022. Milne played for the Chennai Super Kings in the first match of IPL 2022 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He remained wicketless and bowled only 2.3 overs, conceding 19 runs.
Milne picked up an injury and did not play in any of the next five matches, leaving a big hole in the Chennai Super Kings team. Some reports claimed that the Chennai-based franchise will get the services of Milne soon because he is recovering from his injury gradually.
However, earlier today, a press release from IPLT20.com confirmed that Adam Milne will no longer be a part of the Chennai Super Kings team. They have signed Sri Lanka’s 19-year-old pacer Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement.
“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament,” a release from IPLT20.com states.
Who is Matheesha Pathirana? All you need to know about replacement of Adam Milne
As mentioned ahead, Matheesha Pathirana is a pace bowler from Sri Lanka. He is yet to play international cricket for the senior Sri Lankan team, but he has represented his country at the U-19 level. He was born on December 18, 2002 and is only 19 years and 124 days old.
Pathirana is one of the youngest players to receive a contract from an IPL franchise this year. Since most of the players have never played against him before, it will be difficult for the batters to face him initially. Pathirana has played two T20 matches in his domestic career, picking up two wickets at an economy rate of 8.25.
