A Unique Record Held By Virat Kohli In IPL History

Kohli has been the best batsman of the tournament

Virat Kohli has been one of the most eminent batters of India’s franchise extravaganza as he has managed to rack up 6185 runs in the tournament from 202 games. His average ranges at an extraordinary 37.94 while his strike rate reads a sumptuous 130.32.

He has blown hot and cold through the ongoing tournament as he has managed 307 runs from 10 matches with three half-centuries. However, they weren’t really the smashing ones, as it needed a good deal of struggle from him to reach the hallowed finishing line.

With all said and done, he is the man with the second-highest number of centuries in India’s glittering T20 affair, with five tons next to his name. The only cricketer who has been ahead of him is none other than the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle with 6 centuries.

All the centuries scored by Virat Kohli

As mentioned above, VK has smashed five centuries until now and is in the second position of the table, just one adrift of Chris Gayle. His maiden century of the tournament came against Gujrat Lions as he smashed a 63-ball-century with 11 fours and 1 six. Sadly, his effort wasn’t enough to help RCB win, as collective essays from the Lions sealed the deal for them.

His second century arrived against another newcomer, Pune Supergiants, with a power-packed ton as he hammered his way to an unbeaten 108 from just 58 balls. He smacked 8 fours and 7 sixes that made a canter of Gujrat’s monumental total.

The third century of Kohli came against Gujrat Lions, as he was hellbent to avenge RCB’s preceding defeat against them. After an early departure of Chris Gayle, Kohli got into the business alongside ABD and the duo laid waste to the lions emphatically. Kohli hammered 109 from 55 deliveries, smacking 5 fours and 8 sixes.

His fourth century came in the same year of the tournament as he smashed a 50-ball-113 against Kings XI Punjab, which is now rechristened as Punjab Kings. He smashed 12 fours and 8 sixes in his onslaught against the Red brigade.

The latest century scored by Kohli has come in 2019 against Kolkata Knight Riders as he whacked a rollicking ton against the Knights which came in just 58 balls. He whacked 9 fours and 4 sixes that propelled RCB to a match-defining total. Despite Russel and Rana’s dramatic turnaround, in the end, KKR fell short by 10 runs.

Kohli reached all his IPL centuries with a boundary or an over-boundary

If there is one striking similarity between all the centuries of VK in IPL, he has reached all of them with a four or a six. In the century against KKR, he took out Harry Gurney for a glance down the leg-side that raced to the fence after a miffed attempt from Kuldeep Yadav.

Kohli’s fourth century came on the back of a blistering six against Praveen Kumar. He hoicked straight over Praveen Kumar’s head and the ball landed beyond the sight-screen. Kohli took out RP Singh for a cracker as he smashed him straight over his head to bring his ton against Gujrat Lions.

Virat Kohli brought his maiden century in the tournament on the back of a rollicking strike as he slashed Bravo’s wide yorker to consign it to the ropes between the backward point and the short third man. Kohli’s fourth century was special as he brought it up with seven stitches on his left hand. A fuller delivery from Sandeep Sharma was flicked through the deep mid-wicket and long-on to rack up the Herculean feat.
