Pacers taking up the role of a skipper is now becoming a trend. While Pat Cummins has achieved many things recently, the likes of Shaheen Afridi have also now got a chance. In the IPL, though, there are not many examples in this regard. In the past, we have seen pacers such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Zaheer Khan lead their sides. That said, in IPL 2024, we could have quite a few pacers becoming a captain. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three pacers who could be captains in IPL 2024.
1) Pat Cummins
With two bouncers allowed per over, Pat Cummins would be an excellent option to have in IPL. Plus, he is also dangerous with the bat in the endovers. Maybe, this is why SRH went beyond INR 20 Cr for the player.
It would not be a surprise if Cummins is also made the skipper of the side. Aiden Markram did not have a good run last year and if he is relieved of his captaincy tasks, he could improve as a batter.
2) Jasprit Bumrah
Hardik Pandya is injury-prone and if he misses a few games, it would be interesting to see who takes up the task. It is unlikely that Rohit Sharma would do the job.
Suryakumar Yadav did it in Rohit’s absence last season. However, it is likely that Bumrah might become the MI captain if Hardik misses a few matches.
3) Sam Curran
Sam Curran is a part of this list of pacers who could be captains in IPL 2024. The English youngster did this job when Shikhar was not available last season. It would not be a surprise if he turns up as a skipper again.
With Harshal Patel in the team now, Sam Curran will have fewer duties at the death. This might help him play better under less pressure. This might also help his captaincy.
