The Big Bash League is always at the centre of attention due to new rules or due to terrific catches. On Saturday, it was another occasion when the internet started arguing over a rule in the BBL. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as a six was given after the ball hit the roof in BBL.
A six was given after the ball hit the roof in BBL
There was an interesting incident in the game between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League. In the second innings, two batters from the Stars hit the ball to the roof of the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. As per the new rule, due to this occurence, both these shots were awarded a six. In the past, though, such a scenario would result in a dead ball. Internet was divided if the rule was a fair one.
Eventually, it did not have a direct impact on the game as the Renegades won the encounter. However, this rule must be clarified soon. If a ball goes too high up in the air, it is unlikely that it would hit the roof. In this case, it would be unfair for the bowling side to concede six runs.
Twitter reacts to the rule
Most of the users on the internet were not in favour of the rule. However, a few said that it would be hard to justify the ball hitting the roof if the event occurs a lot of times in the game. With the kind of big hitters that the game has right now, it won’t be a surprise if they intentionally try to hit the roof in order to get a six. This would be a safer option since the ball going up so high in the sky would be anyways hard for a fielder to catch if it does not hit the roof. Here are some of the reactions in that regard:
It used to be a dead ball earlier. The rule was changed after Aaron Finch hit the roof in BBL2. His team conceded a six due to that today.#BBL pic.twitter.com/eAifD58f2z

Batter just got a six for hitting the closed roof when he would have probably been out…. BBL 😹

We have the first six on the roof from Joe Clarke at the Marvel. Not sure if it would have gone the distance but cricket rules are rules.

I’m soooo all for Marvel’s roof allowing play no matter the weather.. we’ve lost more than enough games to rain this season..but an automatic 6? Those 2 balls could’ve definitely been caught, totally changing the trajectory of this @BBL game… I vote dead ball. Thoughts? #BBL12

Hitting the roof being an automatic six is one of the worst rules you can ever think of. Both tonight have been mishits that would have been caught #BBL12

Imagine just launching every ball straight up in the air and getting six runs every time the ball hits the roof… What a stupid rule… 🏏 pic.twitter.com/XxdO22p4Ya

Ok that roof six rule is ridiculous.
Joe Clarke is out caught at any other ground.#bbl12
