Shubman Gill was quite exceptional for the national cricket team during India’s tour of Zimbabwe. The talented batter literally made his presence count in the ODI series where he scored an unbeaten 82 off 72 balls.

He constructed his innings with the help of seven boundaries and a six. Moreover, he also added a 192-run match-winning opening stand and helped the team script a 10-wicket win over the hosts.

He batted at a strike rate of 113 and drew plaudits for his exceptional batting performance. During the second ODI, he chipped in with 33 off 34 balls including 4 boundaries.

India won the second ODI against Zimbabwe by five wickets. On the other hand, he took his batting to the next level in the third and final ODI. He top-scored with an exceptional 130 off 97 balls where he struck 15 fours and a six.

Shubman Gill was named the player of the match and was also adjudged the man of the series. The star batsman was named in the T20I and ODI squad for India’s tour of New Zealand.

He was named in the starting XI for the first T20I but the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. He was not named in the next two games of the T20Is but made a comeback for the ODI series.

Shubman Gill scored a half-century off 65 balls including 1 four and three sixes. During the second ODI, he scored an unbeaten 45 off 42 balls including 4 fours and 1 six but the game saw no result due to rain. However, in the third ODI, he scored only 13 runs.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, while speaking to the news agency, PTI, stated that Shubman Gill is indeed a strong contender to open for the Indian national cricket team in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.
