‘The current state of the game is becoming more unstable’-Brad Hogg feels that the introduction of T20 Leagues is negatively impacting international cricket

Brad Hogg, a former Australian left-arm spinner, has stated that as more money has entered cricket, passion and team spirit have taken second place. Hogg bemoaned the fact that people are just moving on to other games like cogs in a machine.

The growing prominence of Twenty20 leagues has presented the gentleman’s game with a challenge and an opportunity at the same time. Even though the excessive payments provided by franchises have completely transformed the lives of a great number of players, the prestige of international cricket has declined in recent years.

When Hogg was asked if the sport has grown more money-oriented in recent years, he stated that it cannot be disputed that this has happened.

What did Brad Hogg say?

On his YouTube channel, he expressed his views about the situation as follows: “Looking back on it, when I was a kid, I always had the desire to one day be able to represent my nation, and I’ve always wanted to give my best for my country. We established a robust culture inside the framework of the Australian team throughout the latter half of the 1990s and the early 2000s.”

Regarding how the impact of commercial activity has altered the setting, he continued:

“Because of the introduction of money and T20 competitions, you are losing the allure that was necessary to establish a culture. There is a constant turnover of players from one squad to another. The current state of the game is becoming more unstable as a direct result of financial considerations.”

In addition to India, league events have previously been held in Australia, England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, respectively. In a recent announcement, South Africa said that they would be developing their very own Twenty20 league, while the United Arab Emirates has also joined the Twenty20 bandwagon.
