The second division of the County Championship was subject to a historic record on Saturday. Glamorgan batter Sam Northeast scored a four hundred and in the process, went on to break a number of records. Interestingly, unlike most cricketers, the right-hander got to the milestone with a six. Here, we take a look at the video in which Sam Northeast brings up his 400 with a six, the first since Brian Lara in 2004.
Sam Northeast brings up his 400 with a six
Glamorgan required a strong response to Leicestershire’s 584 runs in the first innings. However, Glamorgan had a horrible start. They were reduced to 9 for 2 and were in need of something inspirational to take them forward in the game. Experienced player Colin Ingram stepped up and the team was then looking at gaining something out of the fixture.
Sam Northeast was at his best as he scored 410 runs from just 450 deliveries. His stunning knock included a total of 45 boundaries and three big sixes. In fact, one of his six was when he got to his four hundred. The player was at 396 and the opposition started to use tactics of delay in order to disturb the batter. They took a while to deliver the ball. While many expected the cricketer to tap the ball around and get to the milestone, the Englishman had other ideas. He took on the bowler and launched the delivery too long-on. It was a six and Sam became the first Glamorgan cricketer to get to the feat. Here is the moment when that happened:

A stunning achievement by the cricketer
It is extremely tiring to construct long innings. There is a reason why since 2004, we have not seen a four hundred being hit in FC cricket, let alone in Tests.
Players have to take care of the situation of the team and often will have to change their approach. If they save from losing their wicket while doing this, it is a brilliant display. Sam Northeast did just that on Saturday. With this performance, the likes of Brendon McCullum will surely have eyes on the 32-year-old.
