ENG vs IND 2022: Wasim Jaffer thinks that Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s problems with left-arm pacers were shown again in Thursday’s second ODI between India and England at Lord’s (July 14).
Rohit was out in his first 10 balls because he missed a length ball on the stumps from England’s left-handed Reece Topley. Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi, and Trent Boult have all given the right-handed batter trouble in the past.

Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo his thoughts on how Topley got rid of the Indian captain in the Lord’s one-dayer:
“Everyone knows that Rohit Sharma has trouble when the ball swings against left-arm seamers. Reece Topley was a great bowler. Even Rohit’s last shot before he was out was a bad one.”
Shikhar Dhawan also had trouble, and after 26 balls, he was out for nine. Jaffer says that the left-handed player still looks rusty. The ex-Indian batter also said:
“Very unlike batting display. Even though Shikhar Dhawan didn’t get out in the first game, he still seems rusty. He hasn’t found his touch because he hasn’t played much cricket.”
When Jaffer thought about how India batted in the match as a whole, he said that they didn’t show any kind of intent. He said:
“They came out in a somewhat shy way. I wouldn’t say they were careless, but with four maidens, they probably didn’t start out with the right attitude. They didn’t get right to work when they started.”
India fell to 31 for 4 in just 12 overs while trying to beat 247. In the end, they were all out for 146, and England won the game by 100 runs, tying the three-game series at 1-1.

Ashley Giles, a former left-arm spinner for England, looked at the most important parts of the Lord’s ODI and said that the dropped catch by all-rounder David Willey was a big turning point. He told them:
“There was a very important moment, and that was when Willey’s catch was dropped. He was on 1 and went on to get 40 or so at close to a run-a-ball. That partnership with Moeen (Ali) was new, and they were still figuring out how to work together. Both Willey and Topley took that momentum into India’s batting.”
In the 31st over, Prasidh Krishna dropped Willey when Hardik Pandya bowled. Between them, Willey and Moeen added 62 runs to England’s score, bringing it up from 148 for six to a score that was good enough to win.
